Goodbye Pluto?

I'm not much of an astronomer. In fact I'm quite knowledgeless when it comes to anything beyond planet earth. Guess I've forgotten all the Physics I learnt in school.
But recent debates about whether or not Pluto is a planet caught my attention. Ok, even now I can rattle off the nine planets in a row in one breath. And now I may have to remove that list etched in my permanent memory cells and relearn a different set it seems.
It doesnt seem to be a new debate though.
I picked up these links from 1999 about Pluto:
1. Is Pluto A Planet? Copyright 1998, John A. Stansberry
2. Ask an Astrophycisist (or however you spell that word!)

I dont understand the arguements and wont spend time breaking my head and the neural tissue within about the facts, but here are some links
1. Scientists decide Pluto’s no longer a planet (from MSNBC)
2. Pluto Downgraded To 'Dwarf Planet' Status; Solar System Now Has Eight Planets (from ScienceDaily)

Ya know, the more man tries to think he's in control, the more confused he becomes. Whatever NASA, the UN, IISc, Apollo, CNN or Agassi say about Pluto - it wont affect me. Why?
1. I dont believe that my future depends on how the planets lined up when I was born, how many there are and where they are today!
2. Pluto (and Plutonians) won't get angry with humans about the downgrade. They probably dont give 2 hoots about earthlings anyway!
3. That cute Walt Disney dog will still be the same!

He created the whole universe, every speck of duct, every planet, every star, every 'dwarf planet', but what made Him the happiest was creating you and me and also loving each of us. Many scientists and geniuses are now debating what to call Pluto and such trivialties without understanding the reason for their own existence and the existence of the human race. C'mon... get over this! Stop looking billions of miles away and trying to figure out stuff when you can't figure out or understand what's in you!!
In the end, what matters is what you did with your life for God - not how many planets you discovered (or even created!).
Take some time now to look at all of God's creation and be left in awe. Next spend some time in introspection and try to understand the purpose of your life.
Here are the lyrics to an all-time old favorite song of mine

In the stars His handiwork I see,
On the wind He speaks with majesty.
Though he ruleth over land and sea,

What is that to me?
I will celebrate Nativity,

For it has a place in history.
Sure, He came to set His people free,

What is that to me?

Till by faith I met Him face to face,

And I felt the wonder of His grace,
Then I knew that He was more than just a God who didn't care
That lived away out there and

Now He walks beside me day by day,
Ever watching o'er me lest I stray,

Helping me to find that narrow way,
He's everything to me.

Did I make you think?
Put down your thought on my comments!

Broken ........... and working

Lazed around in the morning. The worst moment was when I realised that my CD player was inoperable.
Now, my CD player is blog-famous and has featured on my blog before
Batteries down
Music goes ouch!

Finally it seemed to have died quietly in the still of the night and no attempt at resuscitation - including punching every button, juggling the adapter in every socket and changing the disc etc - showed any signs of life.
I was left with the option of playing CDs on my laptop which was more cumbersome. Anyway - no other option. I needed to buy a new mobile and my budget wouldnt allow me to add a CD player to that list. Vinu lent me his adapter but the voltage was not compatible with my player.
I went about the rest of my day - the usual attempts to learn etc. 11.30 PM saw me back in my room and with a burst of renewed inspiration I tried pushing the adapter into a different socket and unbelievably the display on the player flickered on and soon Building429 filled my room! Awesome!
Guess God does perform some high-tech miracles at 11.30 in the night.

Thought for the Day
(Evangelin sent this to me by SMS)
Invite the Lord into the chemistry of life
He'll dilute your sorrows;
Evaporate your worries;
Filter your mistakes;
And leave you with crystals of Happiness

Thanx for the SMS Evangelin!

Cleaning up

I wont get into the intricate details, but today my bathroom was finally fixed and cleaned. Er... it's not exactly the most cared place where I stay. The flush was slightly blocked, the sink discolored and quite a bit of cobwebs around. The mirror had become non-reflecting and the frame actually broke a few days ago. I actually just wanted to fix the mirror and had left a "Job Request" at the MIQ reception. One thing led to another and soon the plumber was there and deftly inserted a broom stick into some part of the flush tubing and water flowed in quite fast. I had a new mirror fixed and a cleaner came up to clean up the whole bathroom while I simply surfed the net etc. One hour and it was amazing! Lol... so much for the simple joys in life.
Long time ago I wrote an article about cobwebs. You can read it here-
Long time ago I wrote an article about cobwebs. You can read it here in the "Meditate a minute" section of my homepage

What had happened in my bathroom was a slow accumulation of dirt and muck that slowly blocked pipes, left stains, and actually made it dirty. It wasnt an abrupt change. I didnt even notice how dirty it was. Life is like that - many times we compromise, drift away and fall to temptation very slowly. A little change, a little change everyday and before long we are miles away from God's will without even realising it. Till someone walks in and tells us how dirty it actually has got! The only way to keep on the right track is to meditate on His word daily and clean up everyday and take care of small problems right away before they become out of control.
That's my lesson learnt.
And no.... I'm not gonna post a photo of my bathroom before and after cleaning - don't even THINK about it.

Push-up update
I did 23 pushups today. Cool. That's one more than yesterday! In another one month I'll be reaching 50 at this rate! Yeah!!!
BTW, my muscles are already objecting to this unusual strain!

August 2, 2006

If you've read some of the posts in the last few days, you'd know that I've been struggling with my studies and distractions that seem to be slowly taking control.
Over the last couple of days though, things have become more under control and although my study time is still suboptimal, the flow is better and the distractions are much lesser. The randomness is giving way to some kind of sensible order and I can feel God in control.
I did sleep a lot today, but also spent a few hours in the library and ate well. Bumped into a few friends, had coffee with Om P, updated the blog, sms chatted with joyce etc in the midst and at the end of the day I feel so much better than what it was, say, 3-4 days ago.
My study leave is running out and soon I'll be back at work.
God help me manage my time well....

Something inspired me to try doing push-ups today just before I showered. The max I have ever done when I was in college was about 40. Well, obviously my physical condition aint that good now, but with great enthusiasm I started off and actually managed 22 pushups at a stretch. I tried again in a fe minutes and hit 15. OK - now there's something interesting to do everyday!

The story of Prince

This happened last week in India and the sequence of events left me happy first ... and then aghast!
Basically there was this little kid who fell into a deep narrow pit and couldnt be reached. A massive rescue operation involving the army was made and with a touch of technology and lots of emotion we soon had an entire nation praying and hoping that Prince survived. After 60 hours, Prince survived and everyone heaved a sigh of relief - including the Prime Minister! It was a typical Readers Digest epic with lots of drama.
You can find the story in the Times of India and at CNN news coverage
So far so good.
The next day revealed a dark side! Amazingly every minute that Prince struggled with his parents tense and crying and millions praying there was this large bunch of gamblers betting large amounts on whether the boy survived and if so how long etc etc. I was aghast at this. Unbelievably cruel - the amount betted was 150 crore rupees (34 million dollars)!!
Here's a link to the articles
Times of India article
The news at Yahoo

I wonder what the value of a human life has come to. People dont seem to realise that someone called Jesus GAVE UP his life for them and this is priceless! The way God loves us means we are worth more than mere money or material. I wish the people betting realised it. They need to hang their heads in shame.
God loves each of us as if we were the only ones that existed - it's a personal selfless love that transcends all barriers. He loves us just the way we are.
What we are worth is not because of who we are or what we've done but because of what God has done for us. Billions of rupees or dollars cannot make Him change His love for us.
Thank God for that!
I'll end quoting I Cor 13: 4-6
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
